Kaen Bragnus

Kaen is a warrior phenom. Trained in the best academies under the tutelage of the weapon masters of Sekomatt, Kaen quickly stood out among his class. Stronger, Tougher, at least as fast, and most often smarter that his opponents, Kaen quickly drew the attention of the military. The army was putting together a group of shock troopers to perform shock and awe attacks on enemy positions. The troops would charge the enemy line and wreak havock with halberds while the rest of the army followed behind. It was a risky task, with casualties estimated at around 80% per use, but Kaen was up to the task. The force was lead by a veteran captain by the name of Krion. Krion was a wizard with the halberd. Within a few seconds he could have a score of men on the ground, most of them bleeding. It was specifically from Krion that Kaen learned the art of the halberd. Kaen was making progress when the shock troops were called into action.
A battle was waged between Sekomatt and a horde of monstrous beings, gathered from the far corners of the world. No one knows what brought this horde together, but its numbers threatened all the people of Sekomatt. The army was deployed. In their first test against an army, and what would untimely be their last, the shock troops performed admirably, but they were doomed. The troops were designed to fight against a human army, or at least humanoid. Their tactics were no match for the beasts of darkness they encountered. However, they performed their task. They were able to open a gap in the enemy lines, enabling the regulars to penetrate the lines and defeat the horde. The casualty rate was near 100%. only Kaen survived from the group of 50, and only that because he had fallen, near death and been covered with the dead.
After the battle, Kaen awoke and found his way back to Sekomatt. After returning, Kaen found that all the other members of his unit had been killed, and he was devastated. He resolved that as soon as his mandatory 3 years in the army was over, he would leave Sekomatt and venture on his own, never to let down anyone again. The remainder of his time passed uneventfully. Upon leaving Sekomatt, Kaen traveled west, and it was there that he encountered the most unlikely creature.

Kaen and Glock

As Kaen was traveling down the road, he heard from ahead the sound of hooves. Kaen readied his weapon for whatever was coming. Around the bend came a score of bandits, on horseback. Kaen, realizing that the open terrain have the horsemen the advantage, fled to the woods and the bandits pursued. Kaen moved quickly through the woods, but was eventually surrounded by the mounted foes. However, the bandits has unwittingly done something VERY foolish. In their chase of Kaen, they had trampled the cheese stocks of one VERY crazy, high goblin. The bandits began to advance on Kaen, only to have him surprise them with an attack of his own. The bandits, taken aback by the assault looked to their leader for instructions, only to find that in place of their leaders head, was a small humanoid stabbing furiously at an empty neck, screaming something about cheddar. The bandits attacked this small creature, only to have him disappear into the woods. Then, they got stabbed in the back by a halberd. Faced with a godlike warrior in full armor, and a demon like creature of cheese, the bandits fled with their tails between their legs.
As Kaen goes to check the dead, a goblin comes out of the woods, lifts up a bag from the bandit leader, and asks politely “you done here?” slightly surprised by a talking goblin, Kaen nods. The two of them then search the packs. The goblin seems to be uninterested in most of the treasure, but intent on finding something. Kaen, noticing this, asks the goblin what he is looking for. The goblin responds by describing his love of cheese and that he is looking for CHEESE! Kaen, reaches into his pack, and pulls out a small piece of Gouda. The goblin, immediately latches onto Kaen's arm and asks very politely if he can have the cheese. Kaen agrees, and thus was born a very interesting friendship.
Kaen, seeing the combat abilities, as well as infiltration abilities of his friend, concocts an idea. They will be a mercenary duo, taking jobs for hire. They quickly developed a reputation as a capable duo, willing to take almost any job, as long as it paid. Glock, as the goblin revealed his name was, having grown in goblin society, was to say the lease, slight sociopathic. Kaen resolved to help his new friend learn manners, and morals. His method for this was simple, he called it the cheese and the gauntlet method. Any good act was rewarded by cheese, any bad act was punished by a gauntlet to the head. Thus, as time passed, Glock transitioned from a free spirited murderer of children, to a free spirited murderer of his employers enemies. Kaen made sure that all of their jobs were for the greater good, and Glock began to learn of good and evil, right and wrong, cheese and gauntlet.
